Synopsis

A little girl violinist performs in the streets until one day a mustachioed guy comes with a violin-playing automaton. Quickly it usurps everyone’s attention, leaving her dejected and hopeless. She wanders off through the city, passing many people who are running to see the automaton, and happens upon a small alien creature which is wandering aimlessly, all by itself. She takes out her instrument and plays. The creature is overjoyed, and leads her wildly through the streets until they come to a craft of some kind, high-tech and gleaming in contrast to the drab and old-fashioned accouterments of the city. The creature leads her deep into the machine and introduces her to others of its kind. She plays for them and they cheer her on. They bring her through the strata of their alien society until she plays before their ruler, who also appreciates her music. Finally, they take her to a secret room in which there are automatons identical to the one at the beginning in alcoves. One alcove is empty, and there is a “wanted” poster with a picture of the mustachioed man. The girl tells them her story, and the king has an idea. The next day the mustachioed man is astonished to find an enormous pile of automatons, but is shocked to discover that no one wants to listen to them anymore. They are all going to hear the girl, who is playing on a stage lowered from the bottom of the flying saucer.
