Here is a concept sketch for the alien space station:
No thumbnailing this time… I just decided to wing it and see what would happen. I think it worked out pretty well!
All right, that’s more than enough work for one day. To be continued tomorrow!

One more character! Some designs for the automaton who puts the girl out of work:
And the final design for this horrible contraption:
I’m hoping that his cheerful appearance will seem sort of ironic in comparison to his evil deeds. We’ll see. I may have to make him look more evil if it doesn’t work out.
I’m also doing some computer mock-ups of the spaceship. Haven’t gotten into details yet, but this is a general idea of the shapes and how they fit together:
Doing some computer mock-ups of the village set. This will allow me to visualize the basic aspects of the village (perspective, lighting, etc.) easily to create reference images.
Here are two images from street level:
Above is the village common area, where the girl encounters the Mustachioed Man.
And here is an above shot of the whole set:
Here is what I should have posted first, probably. The schedule:
Here’s the storyboard. I managed to cut 13 pages from the version I showed on Monday. The grand total is now 40 pages, and I think I might be able to cut out 4 or 5 more, if necessary.
Under each page thumbnail is a number which indicates which week I intend to draw it. As you can see, I’ve devised a staggered schedule which will allow me to draw the highest-priority pages first: that way if I run out of time, I won’t be stuck with half a story.
Anyway, the storyboards (not guaranteed to make sense to anyone other than myself):
(I drew this yesterday, but didn’t have time to post it.)
Here are some initial drawings of the (relatively) small shuttle which will carry the girl up to meet the aliens.
I’ll probably have to make a model of this if I’m going to draw it in perspective correctly.
The Mustachioed Guy is our main antagonist. As if there weren’t enough anachronisms in this project already, I’m giving him a kind of steampunk look. I want him to remind you of a sideshow barker.
Some face thumbnails. I decided to go with the second one:
And some costume designs:
And my final design for this unsavory fellow:
Here is a design which shows how the aliens will look. They will all be slightly different, but this is the generic version.
There are two experimental poses here as well.
Yes, that is a diagram showing the alien’s leg/arm muscles.
Pages 2 & 12
Lack of updates does not mean I haven’t been working. Here are the first two pages I’ve drawn, #2 and #12. #39 is coming pretty soon. It’s a weird way to work for sure, but practical. I think I’ll get used to it, and perhaps even come to like it. Anyway, the images:
These will probably be modified somewhat, so they’re not technically the finished images. The backgrounds are both based on renders from the digital town model.
