The guy on the lower right is a Gulper Eel. His body is not included in this image, although it does exist.

Experimental Animation: Boat

May 14th, 2010

I’ve mostly been working on monsters for the past few days, but today I made Diver Dave’s boat, and it came out very nicely. Take a little look-see:

Images of the monsters should appear fairly soon, otherwise you may have to wait until the actual movie is ready.

Here are all my cutout sprite pieces for Diver Dave:

And here are two test poses. The one with the black background is intended to be similar to how the final film might appear.

Experimental Animation Day 1

May 10th, 2010

Over the summer I’m taking a three-week intensive course entitled Experimental Animation. The class met for the first time today, and our assignment for the day was to work on some potential concepts for our animations.  Initially I was thinking of doing something about a sort of mechanical planet populated by robots, but I decided that it was too obviously inspired by (and derivative of) Machinarium, so I moved on to concepts involving an astronaut exploring a strange planet, which eventually let naturally to Diver Dave and the Zap Gun. That is my concept for the moment and I’m sticking to it. Here’s my initial very simple storyboard.

Diver Dave always gets what he deserves.
