Sunrise 2012 Calendar

Well, the holiday season is impending, and come Friday those of us in America will all be either 1) going shopping, or 2) staying as far away from stores as possible, depending on our inclinations. But, my friends, there is at least one fine gift which can be acquired without ever setting foot in your local Buy and Large outlet. I speak, of course, of the famed Sunrise 2012 Calendar, which is available now via print-on-demand from Lulu. Click here to check it out.

All twelve (12) months of the upcoming orbital cycle are included, each illustrated with beautiful color Sunrise artwork. This includes the covers of issues 2-10 and three exclusive, original illustrations. The covers have been “remastered” to fit into the calendar shape, with new artwork seamlessly filling in the margins. The three extra images are all original to the calendar, and are full-fledged color artwork, not just old concepts from my sketchbook. Here is an enticing preview if you still don’t believe me:

Realm Chapter 2 is coming!

For those of you who aren’t reading the blog, be aware that the second chapter of Realm is coming soon. Hopefully it will bring with it some riotous adventure and amusing jokes, but you will just have to wait and see.

In the meantime, you can see the “trailer” or check out Chapter 1 if you’ve not seen it before.

Sunrise: Three Years!

Well, it’s been another year. Sunrise officially began on February 12th, 2008, when this horrible-looking page was posted to the then-very-rough website I’d set up at the time. (The cover of Issue 1 appears to have been posted the day before, but was actually posted somewhat later, with the date adjusted to ensure correct position in the archive.) Now, some 230 pages later, it seems like a good time to look back and see what I’ve learned from this little experiment.

Delays, September/October 2010

Hello all… at the moment I don’t have any queue on Sunrise, which means that if I can’t keep to the schedule exactly, things will run late. Today’s page is an example of that (as you’ve noticed, it doesn’t exist yet). I do intend to keep to two pages a week as much as I can, but they may or may not post on Tuesday/Friday as usual. Thanks for your patience, and I hope you’re enjoying Issue 8.

Maybe some of you have noticed already, but for the benefit of those who have not, I wanted to let you all know that I’m keeping a blog on the main site now. It’s about more than just Sunrise, but at the moment it’s got some stuff about Issue 8, so you might like to check it out.

Regarding Issue 7

There will be a slightly longer delay before Issue 7. Here is why: as Issue 6 was finishing, I began working on the next issue, as I always do. I planned it and drew the cover and got as far as drawing and inking the fifth page before I came to realize that I hated the issue. It was a truly horrible thing that I dreaded working on.

So I’ve had to start Issue 7 from square one again, which will mean that it’ll start a bit later than I’d prefer. Don’t worry, though, it will be coming, and I promise it’ll be better than the issue I was working on before.Trust me, you wouldn’t have liked it either. It was bad stuff.

(I realize I’ve whetted everyone’s curiosity now, but really, don’t get excited. It was about spies, and thrilling action, and explosions, and that kind of thing. You know, boring stuff.)

The new issue will begin sometime next month. In the interim period there will be bonus content. Sit tight, we’ll get through this.

Realm: Part One Teaser

Realm, my overambitious graphic novel project, is finally getting off the ground! This comic’s actually been in the works for longer than Sunrise. The first chapter is finally finished, and I’m very excited to finally be able to show this to all of you. However, there are still just a few things that need to be done first, so in the meantime, I present to you this little teaser:

When Does it All End?

The answer is January 19th if you’re asking about Issue 6. There are 33 pages in all, and the last one will appear on that date. I’m saying this now because in most media you have some idea of where the ending will be, and in webcomics it can be much less clear. There are only a few pages left, but you might not know if I didn’t tell you.

Now I can get to work on Issue 7!

Capitalism Strikes Back

Okay, I’m giving the ads another shot. They’ll probably go away again soon, as I doubt I’ll tolerate them for long, but it would be nice to see this site generate at least some sort of revenue. (There will be a store at some point, but there’s still some setup to be done before that’s possible.)

Well, as I predicted, I’ve lost my patience with the ads. If the market can’t bear ads that only cost five cents a day, then there won’t be any ads. So Sunrise is back to being ad-free again…enjoy!
