<p>The labyrinth must be &#8220;activated&#8221; because it is a mechanical puzzle,  and it will not work if it&#8217;s not turned on.</p>
<p>The ship is being refit while they are in England.  This refit is intended to improve the ship&#8217;s passenger accommodations following the passenger-class approval in the previous issue.   They&#8217;re having it done in England because they don&#8217;t want to work with Horizon again for obvious reasons,  and because Astor owns most of the other airship yards in the States.</p>
<p>Finally,  that bearded guy is Dr. Kuruschov,  who will finally get to have some lines again for the first time since Issue 3.</p>
