Well, it looks like it’s about time to change the old Link Board again. Check out Hereville, which has the most unusual premise I’ve seen in a while. Its creator describes it as “yet another troll-fighting 11-year-old Orthodox Jewish girl comic,” which about sums it up. This is what I love about webcomics. You can try out any formula you like without losing any money (or at least, very little). Hereville is an example of an unlikely formula that works. The story reads like an old folktale, the art is elegant, and the writing is quite funny. If any of that sounds appealing to you, I highly recommend that you check this out.

Unfortunately there is still only one story on the site, and the creator is involved in preparing it for print and says that there will likely be no more until 2010. It’s a good one, though, so don’t miss out.

And, as always with Link Board posts, I will remind everyone that this space is open if you desire it. Just say the word and your site will go up in this space.

Since I linked Chronillogical, it has become a rip-roaring success and no longer in need of the few links I have to offer. So, we will now leave our friends the Time Traveling Grad Students in their merry land and move the Link Board down a road less traveled. (Chronillogical is still excellent though, so do look if you haven’t yet.)

Therefore, I hereby present Here There Be Robots. This is a webcomic I loved a couple years ago. I thought it had gone extinct, but today I contacted one of the creators and he assured me that it was alive and well, and now located at a different URL. He asked me to spread the word, so therefore…here there be a link. Here There Be Robots is a very funny comic about two well-meaning aliens who get tangled up with three evil robots. A freak accident transports them back in time to the age of pirates and, predictably, hilarity ensues. It’s highly amusing and features excellent black and white art, so there’s something for everyone! Check it out today!

(Two time-travel comics in a row? Craziness!)

Well, since nobody ever requests the link board (and you could if you wanted to, you know) I’ve decided that instead of leaving it empty all the time I will start using it to link to comics I’ve found recently. I’m going to try to reserve it mostly for comics that are fairly new, as they need the links more (not that I have many to offer). I like Dinosaur Comics as much as the next guy, but seriously, how many views per day does Ryan North actually need? The link board will still be available for requests, though, so do speak up if you’re interested.

So, without further ado, I present my first choice for Link Board feature: Chronillogical! This is a nifty little comic that’s a few months old. The premise? Time-traveling graduate students! If that’s not enough to get your attention, let me state that Chronillogical has wonderfully whimsical art and is very funny. The artwork is very fluid and goofy, very reminiscent of the Saturday-morning cartoons of days gone by. The jokes run the gamut, from surreal and absurd to character-driven. The fact that it’s about graduate students I also find interesting. There’s a real glut of comics about undergraduates, high-schoolers, and little kids, but grad students? That’s unusual. And anyway, can anyone really say “no” to a comic featuring a friendly talking skeleton?* Or a jetpack-toting dean who’s inexplicably two inches tall? This is the kind of thoroughly amusing zaniness that awaits you at Chronillogical, and I highly recommend that you check it out.

*To be fair, he claims that he’s not a skeleton.
